We’ve a couple of quick suggestions for Halloween. Our 9-year-old Free Realms playtester has continued to enjoy Sony’s online RPG and some extra content has arrived. There’s a new football/ soccer minigame, which is good fun. There’s also a Halloween season ‘makeover’ that lets players collect ‘trick or treat’ sweets and items, which can have all kinds of (slightly) spooky effects. Turning into a skeleton or a pumpkin for a while seems to cause much amusement. As part of the entertainment you can track down the Pumpkin Prince and join others in stopping his advance.
The most popular and child friendly Halloween accessories we’ve come across this year are some excellent temporary tattoos. They’re easy to apply with a damp cloth and don’t seem to cause any allergic reactions. (Check for yourselves on that if you have the slightest concern). The Sharks and Snakes sets that we’ve tried look really good and can last for a day or two if put on places like the inside of the forearm.
We don’t feel that we’re encouraging kids to get tattoos later in life. Quite the opposite, as playing around with temporary tattoos lets you discuss the subject. Temporary tattoos also let kids get some idea of what it would be like to be stuck with the same design for a very long time.
