Top 10 Ways To Save Money On Games: Update 2

Print Friendly

Just come upon some good deals on videogames while preparing a post about games and activities for World Cup 2010. The World Cup post will follow shortly but some of the offers at Amazon US and Amazon UK might be time limited, so we’ll go with that first.

As with our last update on the ‘Top 10 Ways To Save Money On Games’, Amazon US is still charging close to full price for titles like Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Heavy Rain, Darksiders and Dante’s Inferno. However, for now, there’s 50% off Assassin’s Creed 2 at a price of $29.99

Assassins Creed II

For some unexplained reason Amazon UK buyers can use ‘Spring Deals’ to collect a whole rack of bargains:

Arkham Asylum for £21.00 on PC

Assassin’s Creed 2 for £23.98 on PS3 and XBox

Dante’s Inferno for £22.98 on PS3 and XBox

Dragon Age: Origins for £14.98 on PS3 and £11.91 on PC

Mass Effect 2 for £24.95 on the XBox and £14.98 on the PC

Second hand deals or holding off for a few more months may result in even lower prices. That said, to us, the offer prices shown represent good value for your own crisp copies of high quality titles.

It also seems fairly clear that the latest Digital Rights Management (DRM) nonsense, (requiring players to have constantly active Internet connections), wouldn’t be necessary if games were priced more realistically in the first place. How can Amazon UK make offers Amazon US can’t, unless there’s a choice being made to sell to premium US markets at the expense of widening access?
